The Saturday Saints wave Bye-Bye

Saturday Saints Farewell Flyer

I’m returning to Boston this weekend for a bittersweet event - The Saturday Saints are to play our last show ever. It should be a really good time. I haven’t seen these guys all summer, and not only will it be nice to visit them, it will be nice to rock out. Along with the show, we are also finally releasing the album that we’ve worked on for almost a full year. Kind of a nice ending to an amazing time spent rocking with four of my favorite people.

Jeff made this amazing poster for the show. If you’re in the Boston/Cambridge/Sommerville area tomorrow night, you should definitely come by and buy a CD and say Hi.

Here is a little preview of the album: Friends are tough

A song that will always make me think about summer nights in basements, tasty licks, and my favorite band ever.

OpenDNS makes my life easier

We were waiting to move everything into our office until after we had the crucial element - internet access. After dealing with the devil incompetent customer service representatives Verizon, we finally got it going. Unfortunately, we kept having problems with certain sites, especially sites with sub-domains, not loading on the first try. It took a couple refreshes to get almost anywhere. LAME.

Greg said he heard about something that sounded something like that might help called OpenDNS. All it took was setting up different DNS servers in our router, and HOT DAMN - our connection not only works better, but is at least 5 times faster. I’m not the only one who thinks this is awesome, (and here) but like whoa, it is.

Surfing is reborn

The web application that I am most dependent on, del.icio.us, announced a new feature a couple days ago that I’m having a lot of fun with. The randomizer bookmarklet takes you to a random site from the annals of del.icio.us. Its pretty hit or miss, but fun none the less. It reminds me of a time before google, when the internet was all about surfing. Surfing in that context, is defined as following link after link on weird home-built pages, finding interesting information, but never really exactly what you’re looking for.

As pointed out in the comments on the randomizer post, there are other services that do this a little better, like StumbleUpon. I tried stumble upon a while ago, but i got very little use out of it because of its FireFox requirement. Since, these days I only use FireFox and IE for javascript debugging, I don’t see myself doing to much stumbling.

Office-iating

Down under

There is no need to apologize for the lack of posts. That would just be silly, for you see, things are happening. Perhaps I’m not being so vocal about those things so maybe I should apologize for that. Nah.

A blogging break is a problem though, because blogging itself needs to be a integral part of ones life if it is to be truly accomplished. Taking a break is the first step in letting your blog and, through a series of loose connections, your life fall apart.

However, the case here is quite the opposite.

Finally, after almost exactly a full year RadioTail has an office. Well, the makings of one. Its a perfectly nice box in DUMBO, with a window and a great view of the river and the Empire State building, at least until they extend the waterfront and build a 40 story apartment building in front of us. We shall turn this empty white cube, that I affectionately call The Ice Planet Hoth into a fully functioning work space.

So, in light of this expect a short period of down time followed by a quick acceleration of features and awesomeness coming from both RadioTail and Quirkey.

Huzzah!

Rubies slipping through my fingers . . .

I was at my computer Teusday night when the announcement that RubyConf2006 tickets were going on sale. I had been waiting for it, and planning on going. My younger brother, Dov, goes to school at CU Boulder so I thought Id be able to kill two birds with one airplane - visiting him and going to RubyConf.

I got to the site was about to put in my credit card info, but a quick check to my bank account made me think twice about making the purchase. The very same day I had spent more money then I haver had on clothes buying myself my first suit (I’m the programmer not the biz guy) for a wedding I’m attending on Sunday. So that quick check made me close my laptop and think about it for a sec. And for that I’m an idiot. I woke up the next morning, to the other announcement and all was moot.

Oh well . . . see you at RubyConf 0 7!
