A Perfect Valentines Day

I think for a lot of the world – or maybe just mass media – the paradigm has shifted from Valentines Day being a time for love or rejoicing in relationships to Valentines Day either being mildly fun and romantic or horribly depressing (Think Paul Giamatti). I mean – thats how I felt about it . . . until I found the most beautiful, intelligent, wondrous woman in the universe. Usually thats all it takes to shit Valentines Day, but it really wasn’t until this year that I could say it was a great day.

I made a great dinner – Stuffed Bell Peppers and mixed greens with a white wine vinaigrette. Then we went and saw Casablanca, which is one of my all time favorite movies, on the big screen at The Brattle. The Brattle alone is a great experience, but seeing that movie in a real print with a big room full of people is one of those unforgettable/unmatchable/required cinematic rites. A great time was had by all.

Captain Renault: What in heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Captain Renault: The waters? What waters? We’re in the desert.
Rick: I was misinformed.
