This week has been filled with a bunch of great news in the Sammy.js department. First of all, Sammy v0.5.4 has been released. Nothing too major, but just excited with a bunch of new contributors involved and some strange and vexing bugs fixed.

More interesting, I was interviewed by The Changelog Show. Wynn and Adam are awesome hosts, and we talked about a lot of fun things including a good deal about Sammy and JSConf. Since I didnt really get to talk too much about Sammy at JSConf, it was a great way to share my current thoughts and some stories of the origins of Sammy.js. This also lead into a nice mention on The Dev Show yesterday.

I haven’t mentioned it here either, but I’ve also been making some major upgrades to my Sammy presentation app, Swinger. I added slide sorting, incremental lists, and a ton more. This also includes having a fully useable hosted version for people to play with at http://swinger.quirkey.com/

I’m very excited about where Sammy is going and even more excited as I’m using it almost every day and getting to contribute back to the project and think about the stumbling blocks as I use it.

I already have a basic plan laid out for the next release which is mainly focused on re-writing the
partial()
and template handling to make chaining multiple templates much much easier. You can follow the work I’m doing on it on github. The current status is that it works and passes the basic tests, but theres still a bit to go in terms of API and usability. I’m going to write a more detailed post about it very soon.

My proposal got enough votes (thanks everyone) and I’ll be speaking at GoGaRuCo in just about three weeks. Once again, I’m honored to be even listed on the same page as some of the other speakers. I’ll be speaking about Sinatra and considering I’m on real vacation next week, I’ll have a little less then two weeks to prepare my talk. It’s gonna be AWESOME. Also this means I’m going to be in SF the weekend of the conference (I’m staying until Monday April 20th) so if you’d like to meet up, shoot me an email or a tweet.

Thanks to the wonderful world of open source and github, Michael Kohl added a patch to sinatra-gen that allows you to instantly create a heroku instance for you new app as you generate. Pretty nifty. I hope to write up a little tutorial with this once I return.

More soon!

We’re not as cool looking as Scrivs, and the 9Rules guys, but really its just cool to be mentioned in the same league, let alone sitting at the same table, as The Deck and Federated Media.

Recently, Greg decided it would be a good idea to start an email newsletter for RadioTail. We looked around the web, talking it over, thinking about if we should use a mailing list program – or just write our own. We had almost resigned ourselves to writing our own when we found Campaign Monitor. I poked around a little bit and it looked perfect. On to designing the page.

This was my first ever html newsletter design – but once I realized that I could just do XHTML/CSS it dint take very long. In about a days time we had our first Podcast Media Mixer – and a website to boot. The design is pure CSS and web standards and that saved me a load of time when I went to check it in IE. Just one box model adjustment and It was good to go. Then I got to work with campaign monitor. Which was just a real pleasure. Even though it looked nice I was dreading having to go through any sort of set up process or archaic multi-screen validation cut-and-paste bullshit. Alas – I was saved – Campaign Monitor was really well thought out and designed.

Now after all that, they sent us a little high-five by putting my design in their Design Gallery along with the likes of IconBuffet and Threadless, two of my favorite sites.

Ahh – the 80 hour weeks begin to pay off.
